Man Dies in Crash Along U.S. 287

A California man lost his life Feb. 6, 2026 in a single vehicle wreck on U.S. 287 in Clay County.

A press release issued by DPS Sgt. Juan Gutierrez identified the deceased as Sandeep Singh, 34, from Manteca, California.

The wreck occurred at approximately 10:27 p.m. Friday on U.S. 287 and Belknap Creek Road, approximately one mile southeast of Bellevue.

Singh was driving a 2025 Freightliner towing a 2019 Great Dane semi-trailer.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer was traveling northwest on U.S. 287, failed to maintain a single lane and drifted off the road to the right, went up an embankment and struck a railroad car on the railroad tracks. The tractor-trailer then rolled onto its left side and came to rest. Singh was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
